As of the question of "exit strategy". Yes, there needs to be an strategy, but no time frame.
Actually, with the second opinion of the writer I disagree with. There needs to be the measurements, and the tracking of progress. So, that is an Republican opinion that it is just a promise versus actual plans to be intact that would work.
Obama wants to send more troops, this will help because the coalition has been on the defensive instead of the offensive. The Taliban surged in 2008 and that was the worst year since the war had begun. Obama also wants to send 4000 troops to train the Afghan National Army. While most of the ANA appear to be excellant combatants against the Taliban, there remain a few that are corrupt. Hopefully the extra 4000 can not only train, but weed the corrupt out.
